Get Certified as a Phlebotomist
The healthcare field is booming these days, and phlebotomy is quickly becoming a popular option or people who want to enter the medical field without suffering through many years of schooling.
Although many states do not require that you become certified or licensed in order to practice phlebotomy, getting a job without an education in phlebotomy is nearly impossible! Certification gives you the edge that you need to land your ideal job because it tells your employers that you are properly trained in your field. Fear not, certification can range from a few months to as little as two years!
The first step to becoming a trained phlebotomist is to get the proper training from an accredited college or a vocational/technical school. The next step is to take the certification exam. The American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) offers one of the official exams that will test you on all the aspects of basic phlebotomy knowledge. You will be tested on subjects like anatomy, physiology, the circulatory system, and important phlebotomy techniques. However, in order to become eligible for phlebotomy certification, you need to first complete a specified number of training and class hours, in addition to obtaining a high school degree or GED.
Depending on the state that you want to work in, you also might need to complete a few hours of training or interning with certified phlebotomists. The demand for trained phlebotomist is growing every day, and it is becoming increasingly important to get properly certified before practicing phlebotomy.
