Proper phlebotomy training prepares a student to become a phlebotomist. What trainings do aspiring phlebotomists have to undergo prior to entering the field of healthcare? Phlebotomy training includes principles in performing venipuctiures and skin punctures. Proper techniques are discussed in getting blood sample by capillary or venipuncture. Handling and processing of the specimen is being discussed as well as the safety procedures. Labeling, sorting and preservation of the specimen are integral parts of phlebotomy training. Prevention of contamination and self-care are also discussed during phlebotomy training since phlebotomists are at a risk for blood borne-pathogens due to the nature of their job. Classroom discussions include anatomy particularly of the circulatory system and physiology. The coursework of phlebotomy training further includes emergency procedures, preparations for testing and improvement of communication skills.
